Mythology (Annapurna Jayanti 2021 Katha)

According to legend, once there was a drought on the earth. The land became barren. There was a crisis of life due to non-production of crops, fruits etc. Then Lord Shiva took the form of a beggar for the welfare of the earthlings and Mother Parvati took the incarnation of Mother Annapurna. After this Lord Shiva asked for food in alms from mother Annapurna. Taking this food, Lord Shiva went to the earth and distributed it among all the living beings. After this, once again there was wealth on the earth. Since then, the legislation to celebrate Annapurna Jayanti on the full moon day of Margashirsha month started.

On this day, after retiring from bath etc., clean the kitchen. After this sanctify the whole house and the kitchen with Ganga water. Worship the gas, stove etc. and worship Mother Annapurna. On this day, worship the cooking stove with turmeric, kumkum, rice, flowers, incense and lamp. Worship Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva by bringing an idol or picture in the kitchen itself. On this day, the women of the house make offerings of rice and sweets on the stove and light a ghee lamp. On Annapurna Jayanti one should take food without salt.
