Radha Ashtami 2022: In Hinduism, there is a tradition of celebrating Radha Ashtami on the Ashtami date of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada. On this day the devotees of Shri Krishna and Radha Rani get drenched in the melody of Radhe. Who is Radha Rani?
Radha was born on the date of Bhadra Shukla Ashtami in Barsana. This day is celebrated as Radhashtami. Some people believe that Radha is a feeling which is attained by following the path of Krishna. In Hinduism, she is depicted as the girlfriend and companion of Shri Krishna. In the Padma Purana, she is described as the daughter of Vrishabhanu king and incarnation of mother Lakshmi.
What happened to Radha after Krishna left Vrindavan?
Radha is rarely described after Krishna left Vrindavan. According to mythology, when Shri Krishna last met Radha, he told Krishna that he would always be in her mind. After this, Krishna went to Mathura and killed Kansa and other demons and settled in Dwarka to protect the subjects.
Radha's life changed completely after Krishna left Vrindavan. He was married to Ayanghosh. Radha performed all the rituals of her married life and grew old. But even at that time Krishna was settled in Radha's mind. Radha fulfilled all her duties as a wife. On the other hand Shri Krishna performed his divine duty.
When Radha came to meet Shri Krishna for the last time, she came to know that Krishna is married to Rukmini and Satyabhama. His heart was very sad. But seeing Radha, Shri Krishna was very pleased. No one recognized Radha in Kanha's city of Dwarka, so on Radha's request, Krishna appointed her as a goddess in the palace.
Radha used to see the work of the palace and used to see Krishna as soon as she got a chance. But Radha did not feel a spiritual connection with Shri Krishna in the palace, so she left the palace. Gradually time passed and Radha became all alone and weak. At that time he felt the need of Shri Krishna. At the last moment, Shri Krishna appeared before him. Krishna asked Radha to ask for something. But Radha refused. On the request of Krishna again, Radha requested to play the flute.
Shri Krishna took the flute and started playing it in a very melodious tune. Radha gave up her body while listening to the tune of the flute. Krishna knew that his love was immortal, yet he could not bear Radha's death. Krishna broke and threw the flute as a symbolic end to love. It is said that after this Shri Krishna did not play the flute throughout his life.
