People often think that God is very far away from us because we believe that the Father-God is present at some distant place, completely unconcerned about our lives on Earth. We wonder how busy He must be and when He would find the time to think about us. With billions of people on Earth, will He respond to our prayers? But what we think is completely opposite to reality. God knows everything we do and cares about us more than our own parents. The door of the Father-God is always open.
If we listen to the prayers of people from all over the world, we will find equality in them. We must have heard and seen many people praying to God. We also see that He answers their prayers. But it is human nature that when we don't receive an answer at the moment we want it, or it doesn't come the way we want it to, we become disappointed or sad. This is not just about one person; it happens to most people.
Gratitude is a special quality that many people lack. We can do a hundred things for someone, but if that person focuses on one thing that we didn't do or didn't do according to their preference, they complain. Similarly, even if we buy hundreds of toys for our children, if we take back just one toy from them, they complain. We can cook delicious meals for someone, but they only focus on the dish that got burned.
Likewise, if we send beautiful greeting cards to someone on their birthday every year, but if we forget to send one card for a single year, they complain about that one year. Wherever we work, even if we type thousands of pages, if we never hear a word of praise but make a mistake in typing, we get scolded. In the same way, God blesses us week after week, year after year, but our attention is only focused on the prayer that didn't receive an answer.
Why do so many people only focus on something they didn't receive instead of appreciating everything they have received? The problem lies in the wrong concept of living in the present moment. Living in the present moment means calming our mind and forgetting about the past and future thoughts. However, people often live in the present moment only when it is related to their current desires.
Most people do not have the gratitude to appreciate whatever they receive. They are always engrossed in fulfilling their present desires. Our mind is filled with desires of this world, and it always sends us some desire. It makes us forget what we have received in the past and only focuses on what we desire at the moment.
If we don't get what we want, our mind makes us forget everything we have received before. In this way, the mind prevents us from being grateful. It stops us from being grateful for the things we receive from others and even from being grateful for the things we receive from the Father-God.
When we don't have the attitude of gratitude within us, why does our mind enjoy it? When we don't have gratitude for what we receive from others or from the Father-God, we see that we are in a state of turmoil. We are always unhappy and troubled. But if we develop the attitude of gratitude, our mind will become peaceful and content. Gratitude is the key to happiness and satisfaction in life.
